Special Presentation: Utah’s Manufacturing Modernization Grant Program Origins and Impact

Thanks to Dr. Tulinda Larsen, Executive Director, and David Beckerman, Chief Strategist, with the Utah Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Initiative (UAMMI) for joining this Monday call to present on their region’s success in standing up the Utah Manufacturing Modernization Grant program with the support of the Governor’s Office. The program came about from original research that UAMMI led as part of their designation as a Department of Defense-recognized Defense Manufacturing Community. Their research on reshoring trends and the insufficient rate of technology adoption by their state’s manufacturers to remain competitive with global trends. The new program, now having delivered funding to over 40 Utah manufacturers, helps them afford capital-intensive equipment so that they may win new, larger contracts and modernize more effectively.

This program is an example of the power of regional public-private partnerships that identified a gap in their manufacturing ecosystem and worked collaboratively, using the best available evidence, to produce a solution benefitting manufacturers. Thank you Tulinda, David and UAMMI for sharing this great program with the AMCC network!
